Southwold Pier
190m long pier in Southwold, Suffolk, North Sea. Southwold Pier attracts tourists with numerous attractions: traditional souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and arcades. What's more, we also find a collection of modern coin-operated machines by Tim Hunkin.
Southwold Pier was built in 1900. Steam ships carrying tourists from London, Great Yarmouth and Clacton moored here until the 1930s. Unfortunately, over time, the pier began to deteriorate due to storms or during World War II. It wasn't until 1987 that Southwold Pier was restored. The T-shaped ending that was once characteristic of the pier was destroyed, but in 2002 it was decided to rebuild it. At the same time, Southwold Pier was recognized by the National Piers Society as the best pier of the year.
