Sandringham Estate
Sandringham House is a country residence, which is the private property of Queen Elizabeth II. It was built in 1771 in the Georgian style, but at the end of the 19th century it was completely rebuilt. You can find here, among others living room, dining room and ballroom, as well as recreational areas such as a billiard room and bowling alley. From 1977, it houses a museum dedicated to the royal dynasty and the history of the estate. Like the surrounding park and garden, it is open to the public.
In 1862, the estate was bought by Queen Victoria for the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. He was to live here with his newly married wife, Duchess Alexandra from Denmark. It was the princely couple who commissioned the extension and reconstruction of the residence. On the property, premises for horses, dogs, cats and other animals belonging to the princess were built. In 1886, a dovecote was also built for pigeons given to Prince York by King Leopold II of Belgium.
