The Roman Baths
The Roman Bath in London is an archaeological mystery, but there is little indication that in fact its history dates back to Roman times. Nevertheless, Roman tradition has been following it since the 1830s, and in this climate it has been rebuilt and restored. Currently, it can be viewed through the window all year round and visited after prior booking.
The bathhouse is a remnant of a tanker built in 1612, whose purpose was to provide water to the fountain standing in the gardens of the former Somerset House. When the fountain was demolished, the tank was left unattended, which gradually fell into ruin. In the 1770s, it was used again - at first it was used as a public swimming pool for cold baths. After about fifty years, theories about its Roman origin first appeared.
