Italian Gardens
The Italian water gardens are located in the north of Kensington Park. They consist of four main water reservoirs. Attention is drawn primarily to the marble rosette located in their central place and the Tazza Fountain, made of stone and white marble. A collection of stone sculptures and decorated urns is set around. Five main decorative motifs are intertwined with them: swan, woman's head, dolphin, ram's head and oval shape.
The gardens were created on the initiative of Prince Albert and were most likely his gift to Queen Victoria. The prince first introduced Italian inspirations, such as extensive terraces, fountains and urns, to the gardens at Osborne House, and in the 1960s to Kensington. The local Italian water gardens were created according to the design of James Pennethorne and contain many features of the garden from Osborne.
