Mansion House
Mansion House is the official seat of the Mayor of London. It is located in the city center, near the Bank metro station. The building, whose construction began in 1739 and finished in 1752, is included in the list of class 1 monuments. The author of the design was George Dance the Elder.
Mansion Hause is maintained in the Palladian style. It is characterized by classic monumentalism, functionality and decorative economy. The entrance facade has a portico with six Corinthian columns, supporting the pediment with sculptural decoration by Sir Robert Taylor. The most representative room is the Egyptian Hall, which in no way refers to Egyptian architecture. It is called so because it is based on the models of the classical architect Vitruvius from his Roman buildings in Egypt. Giant columns support the attic, and the room is decorated with marble statues and stained glass.
In the past, Mansion Hause also had a court and a prison. In one of the cells she was imprisoned, among others EmmelinePanhurst, founder of the British suffragette movement.
