Garden Museum
The only museum in the United Kingdom centered around the theme of gardens: their history, art and design. The Garden Museum is also located in a unique place, in the medieval and Victorian church of St. Mary-at-Lambeth. Visitors have the opportunity not only to admire the beautiful architecture of the temple, but also interesting exhibitions dedicated to the gardens.
The Garden Museum was founded by Rosemary Nicholson in 1977. She was guided by the idea of saving the then abandoned church of St. Maria-at-Lambeth, who was to be stripped. Interestingly, in the basement of the temple, John and Rosemary Nicholson discovered the forgotten resting place of John Tradescant, who was the first gardener and plant explorer in British history. A garden is dedicated to him, in which the tomb occupies a central position.
The museum itself has gone through several stages of development, and today we can admire its magnificent beauty after reopening in 2017. To make the visit more pleasant, the Garden Museum has also opened a cafe: Garden Café.
