Grovelands Park

Grovelands Park is a park located in Southgate and Winchmore Hill. In its central place there is a lake where you can find many species of birds, including ducks, various varieties of goose and mandarin. There are also tennis courts, a basketball court, a bowling alley and a nine-hole golf course. In the park stands a historic, 18th-century mansion, Groveland's House, which currently houses a psychiatric hospital.

In 1796, the area where the park is located was bought by Walker Gray, who commissioned John Nash to design the house. Humphry Repton was to set up a park and gardens at that time. The works were completed at the beginning of the 19th century, but over the years the residence was regularly extended and modernized. In 1913, part of the estate was bought by the institution Municipal Borough of Southgate and turned it into a public, publicly accessible park. Meanwhile, the residence was also sold and adapted for the needs of the hospital.
