Brecon Beacons National Park
Brecon Beacons is one of three national parks located in Wales. It is a mountainous area covered with meadows and heaths. In the park you can walk, ride a bike and horse, as well as fly a hang glider, fish or explore the local caves. He runs here among others 161 km long Beacons Way trail. There are also archaeological monuments and remains of Roman construction.
Brecon Beacons is one of the last places where you can meet slowly grazing Welsh ponies. There is also a constantly growing population of red kite, not too long ago endangered. In turn, in the Usk Valley lives the largest population of horseshoe bats in the UK.
The name comes from the word "beacons", referring to bonfires lit on the top of hills for faster messages over a long distance. The surrounding peaks were used for this purpose in the past.
