Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
Pembrokeshire Coast is the only coastal national park in Great Britain. There are breeding colonies of numerous sea birds, including puffins, gannets and gray peas. In the park you can find remains of a settlement dating back to the 5th century BC, prehistoric tombs and burial mounds, medieval castles and the only tidal mill in Wales. Numerous walking and cycling paths have been marked out here, you can also go surfing and sailing.
The park covers an area of about 620 km2, and its coastline stretches for 300 km. There are nearly 60 beaches here, and in 2012 this area was announced by the National Geografic magazine the second most beautiful coastal area in the world.
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park was created in 1952 to protect the diverse coastal landscape. There are cliffs covered with rocks as well as sandy beaches, as well as estuaria, i.e. funnel-like estuaries.
