Samnaun is an alpine ski resort on the border of Switzerland, Austria and Italy. It is part of the Silvretta-Arena Samnaun / Ischgl cross-border ski region, the largest in the Eastern Alps, where 240 km of ski runs and numerous other winter attractions await lovers of winter sports.
In the past, Samnaun was a town famous for smugglers who took advantage of the proximity to the border and smuggled their goods there. Currently, there is the only duty-free zone in Switzerland, and thus there are shopping centers and numerous shops, including luxury brands.
Since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Samnaun has been developing as a thriving ski resort. Today, together with Ischgl on the Austrian side of the border, it forms the largest ski region in this part of the Alps. In addition to several hundred kilometers of downhill runs served by more than 40 ski lifts and mountain railways, including the only double-decker Samnaun Twinliner in the world, the Samnaum cable car and the Alp Trider Sattel cable car, there is also one of Switzerland's largest snow parks for snowboarding, numerous cross-country skiing routes , toboggan runs as well as 40 km of winter hiking trails. In summer, the main attractions of Samnaun are hiking trails leading to the surrounding peaks and picturesque Alpine valleys.
