Obersaxen-Mundaun is a mountain resort and ski resort with 120 km of pistes. In summer, the surrounding peaks encourage hiking, and numerous bicycle routes have been marked out in the valleys.
The town consists of several settlements separated by vast meadows and deep ravines cut into the slopes of the mountains. In the past, especially in winter, they were a great obstacle to communication, and therefore, in order to allow residents to participate in services throughout the valley in the 17th and 18th centuries, a dozen or so chapels were built, which have survived to this day. There was a cultural trail between them. The second route allows you to learn about traditional construction, many examples of which have been preserved in Obersaxen-Mundaun.
Currently, Obersaxen-Mundaun is primarily a ski resort and active summer tourism. There are about 120 km of mainly easy and medium downhill runs connected by numerous lifts and cable cars, such as the Cuolm Sura cable car or the Wali-Stein cable car. You can also use several dozen kilometers of trails for winter hiking with the use of snowshoes.
In summer, the main attractions of Obersaxen-Mundaun are the numerous hiking and mountain bike routes that lead, among others, to to the Rhine canyon of Flims, the monastery of Disentis or the nearby Chur.
