The tower is one of the nine towers in the city's fortification system. It was built in the 15th century. From 1847 until the end of World War II, it was used for military purposes. The tower has been open to the public since 1978, offering an observation deck from where a beautiful view of the city, Lake Lucerne, Reuss River and Mount Pilatus spreads.
