Pilatus viewing platform
Local name: Aussichtsplattform Pilatus
Pilatus is a mountain massif located in the Urneński Alps towering over Lake Lucerne. The highest peak is Pilatus Kulm (2137 m). You can reach the summit by Pilatusbahn - the world's steepest rack-and-pinion train. A place recommended for climbing, hiking, mountain biking and paragliding. There is also a summer toboggan run here.
Many local legends are associated with the massif. According to one of them, Pontius Pilate was buried here. It is from his name that some derive the name. However, in fact it comes from the Latin word pilleatus, which means a felt cap, a hat (probably a reference to the clouds that often surround the top).
For years, the mountain was considered cursed on one of the Catholic holidays, the so-called Good Friday was to appear here Pilate with his hands soiled in the blood of Jesus, the person who saw him was facing certain death.
