A narrow-gauge rack railway leads from Alpnachstad to Pilatus. It has been operating continuously since 1889 and has been electrified since 1937. It is the steepest rack railway in the world - its slope is 48%. At the bottom station there is the historic "Majorenhaus" from 1863.
