Alvastra Monastery

Local name: Alvastra Kloster

The ruins of the 12th-century monastery were the seat of the first Cistercian congregation in Sweden, established in 1143. In the past, the monastery was a necropolis for crowned heads - among others, Ryksa, daughter of Bolesław Krzywousty, wife of two Swedish kings, Magnus the Strong and Swerker I the Elder.
