The exhibition Grenna Museum Andréexpedi onen Polarcenter shows the details of the tragic expedition of Solomon August Andrée, who in 1897 set off in a balloon to conquer the North Pole. At the exhibition you can see, among others items that the members of the expedition had with them were worn leather shoes, handkerchiefs with a monogram, lucky charms, and even mustard.
Engineer Knut Frænkel and photographer Nils Strindberg participated in the expedition to the Pole, in addition to SA Andrée. The balloon crew sent messages about their location and situation to the carrier pigeon. The last such note was received by fishermen from a whaler.
The last camp from which the exhibits on display come from the museum was discovered in 1930. Andrée's body was also found - it was in a frozen stream. Members of the Norwegian polar expedition found their trace.
