Falkenberg is a popular resort on the Kattegat, and in the past also a strategic point with a castle guarding the strait. A lot of historic buildings have been preserved in the center, and the surrounding beaches attract crowds of vacationers each year.

The history of the city goes back to the times of the Vikings. Due to invasions and repeated destruction, the stronghold changed its location. There was a medieval castle here, built to fortify the Danish border, but only stone foundations have remained to this day.

After the castle was demolished, the importance of Falkenberg declined. Until the 19th century, it was an inferior town with several dozen houses. The breakthrough came with the development of the local port in the mid-19th century and the beginning of the fashion for trips to the seaside. The seaside part of Falkenberg has turned into a fashionable resort which it remains to this day.

The sandy beaches around the city allow for summer relaxation, and the sea is warm enough for swimming. Convenient winds make it possible to windsurf, and in addition, the seaside area is cut by a network of walking and cycling paths.
