Plaza del Callao is a Madrid square that was built in the first half of the 20th century. It is surrounded by historic "skyscrapers" such as the Edificio Capitol, Palacio de la Prensa and Edificio La Adriática. They were built in the 1920s and 1930s.
Edificio Carrión, also known as Edificio Capitol is a symbol of this area. It currently houses a cinema, shops and a hotel. The building was designed as a multifunctional space in an expressionist style by Luis M. Feduchi and Vicente Eced y Eced - both architects of the project brought high recognition.
The Palacio de la Prensa was designed by Pedro Muguruza Otaña. In the 1930s it was the tallest building in the city, influences of American architecture are visible here. Another characteristic building around the square is Edificio La Adriática with a small tower topped with a dome.
