Monument to the Fallen for Spain

The Monument to the Fallen for Spain, popularly known as the Obelisk, is located at Plaza de la Lealtad. The monument was erected in the place where General Joachim Murat ordered the execution of many Spaniards after the creation of Dos de Mayo in 1808. Since then, the monument was inaugurated twice, including in 1985 - from that moment the gas-powered flame is constantly burning on the front of the monument.
