The historic city center is situated on a hill directly on the seashore. It has the shape of an irregular heptagon, with a defensive bastion on each of its corners. In 1999 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
There are three official tourist routes around the Old Town. They can be visited independently or with a guide. The old town was heavily fortified. In addition to the above-mentioned bastions, it was protected by city walls, and it was possible to get inside through four gates. It is worth paying attention to the baroque cathedral and the square in front of it, as well as the statue of the priest and historian Isidor Macabich.
Currently, the Old Town houses many restaurants, art galleries and shops with souvenirs and handicrafts.
