The Generalife palace and garden complex has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1984. The complex consists of several exotic gardens with swimming pools, fountains, pavilions, gazebos, colonnades, sculptures and rare plants, as well as a magnificent palace in the Arabic style. The property also has an amphitheater, where performances, concerts and various types of performances take place during the summer season. An annual Dance Festival is organized there.
Thanks to the location of the complex on the top of the hill from the gardens level, you can admire the panorama of the area. Under favorable weather conditions, you can see the outline of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The property dates from the Moorish times and served as a summer residence. It was created in the fourteenth century on the orders of Emir Muhmmad III. The building was rebuilt during the reign of Ismail I. The garden was tidied and modernized in 1931-1951 from Francisco Prieto Moreno.
