Miranda Tower

The Torre de la Miranda in Barcelona is a 31-meter hexagonal tower built in the Neo-Moorish style. Her design was based on the characteristic features of Oriental architecture, responsible for him was Jaume Gustà and Bondia.
The building was erected in the 19th century on the order of Arnau Mercader, son of Count Belloch. Arnau was a passionate observer of wild bird species, he was also interested in astronomy and meteorology.
The tower was to serve him as a place for research, migratory birds that stopped in the surrounding wetlands were clearly visible from it. An astronomical observatory was also built on the tower.
Torre de la Miranda was built near the palace in the Parque de Can Mercader. Until the 1970s it was the tallest building in this area, it was clearly visible from the nearby villages.
