The Gothic cathedral of Saint Mary in Burgos has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1984. Additional decorations on the building's facade are numerous cloisters, turrets and ornaments. In the church you can see numerous works of art, including paintings, sculptures, stained glass, reliefs, golden stairs, tombs, high altar, side chapels and choir. Many famous artists from Spain, France and the Netherlands worked on the interior design of the cathedral.
The current building was erected on the site of an earlier Romanesque church, which turned out to be too small in the face of a diametrically increasing number of city residents. The temple was built from the 13th to the 16th century. Over the centuries of existence, the building underwent reconstruction, at which subsequent elements were added to the facade. The last modernization took place at the end of the 20th century.
