Teatro Arriaga is a place where mainly opera performances take place. However, it is also used to organize important performances and festivals from the city's perspective. This is the most important theater in Bilbao. Visiting the Teatro Arriaga you can see the richly decorated interiors, candelabra, winding stairs, stage, seating and balconies, and a sculpture depicting Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga.
The neo-baroque building dates from the second half of the 19th century. It was designed by Joaquín Rucob. The name of the theater comes from the name of Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, who was a famous Spanish composer. After a flood in 1983, the building was destroyed. Its reconstruction took place in 1985 while maintaining its current shape.
