"L'Estel Ferit" ("Morning Star") is a sculpture standing on the sandy beach of La Barceloneta, whose author is the German artist Rebecca Horn. The sculpture is 10 meters high and consists of four cuboids stacked on top of each other. Metal and glass were used to make it. Today it is a showcase of the district, local surfers meet around it.
The sculpture was created on the occasion of the Summer Olympic Games organized in Barcelona in 1992.
During the preparations for this event, the city tidied up the coastal areas, many of the objects existing there permanently disappeared from the urban landscape. According to one interpretation of a German artist's work, she wanted to pay homage to the past and local tradition through her sculpture.
Rebecca Horn lived in Barcelona in the 1960s. She was then 20 years old, during her stay she became seriously ill as a result of working with hazardous materials.
