Sun Square

Local name: Plaça del Sol

Plaça del Sol (Sun Square) in the Gràcia district of Barcelona was founded in the first half of the 19th century. A high modernist tenement house at No. 13 and a sundial are a tourist attraction here. The square is famous for its excellent offer of cafes and restaurants.

The modernist tenement house attracts attention with its green decorated facade and pink shutters. The sundial standing here is a bronze sculpture, its shield is surrounded by 12 zodiac signs.

The square is often visited by tourists who want to try Spanish tapas and beer. In the evening you can often listen to guitar music or see a traditional flamenco dance show. A characteristic view during warm summer evenings are the crowds sitting directly on the marble slabs.

The square was founded in a period when Gràcia was still a separate town. Today it is very fashionable, although the smallest district of Barcelona. There used to be a bomb shelter in the square.
