Romanesque monastery of Sant Miquel
Local name: Monestir Romànic de Sant Miquel
Capella Romànica known as L'Església Romanica or the Romanesque monastery of St. Michał's towering over Poble Espanyol (Spanish Town), which was established in 1929 on the occasion of the World Exhibition. It is a building created on the basis of the designs of several different temples erected between 1000 and 1200 in Catalonia.
During the construction of the chapel, modeled after at the monastery of St. Sebastian from Bages and the church tower from Taradell in the Pyrenees. Capella Romànica was supposed to stand here, like other Poble Espanyol buildings, for only six months. However, thanks to proper conservation, the whole has survived to this day and is a tourist attraction.
Examples of Spanish architecture as well as craftsmanship are presented at Poble Espanyol. There are 117 buildings representing various styles in the town. Tourists can buy original handicrafts here, made on the spot by Catalan folk artists. Glass and ceramic products are popular.
