Barcelona Pavilion

Local name: El Pabellón Alemán

Pavelló alemany, a modernist German pavilion, was built for the International Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929. The author of the design was Mies van der Rohe. You can admire the famous Barcelona chair, also the work of van der Rohe and the sculpture "Alb" by Georg Kolbe. The pavilion is located on the Montjuïc hill.

The building is famous for unusual materials that were used in its implementation. These include porous sedimentary rock - travertine, called the Egyptian Alabaster. Other exotic materials include onyx and green marble imported from Greece.

Mies van der Rohe while creating the pavilion project used the free throw method, characteristic of modernist architecture. The plan of individual floors is not divided into separate rooms, instead of closing traditional walls, columns and partitions of different types of glass were created.
