And Guarda is a city picturesquely situated on the Atlantic Ocean. It is built around a large fishing port, and its greatest attraction is the ancient Galician settlement of Santa Trega.
The town is situated at the mouth of the Miño River into the Atlantic Ocean. The local fishermen mainly catch seafood, including lobster, for which A Guarda is known throughout Spain.
The main attraction of A Guarda is the Santa Tecla hill, on which the Castro de Santa Trega rises. it is a settlement from the 2nd century BC with a perfectly preserved layout of residential houses and craft buildings. Medieval stone crosses are set along the road leading up the hill, and the local Benedictine monastery is still a center of religious worship.
The Santa Tecla hill, with its two peaks, is also an excellent vantage point on A Guarda and the coast of Galicia.
