Bovec is a small town located in the Julian Alps, in the Soczy Valley. It is a year-round center of active tourism, where you can practice, among others mountain hiking, climbing, rafting, paragliding and skiing.
Beautifully situated in a deep river valley, with views of the rocky mountain peaks, the place is mentioned in medieval times. Its oldest monument is originally a Romanesque and then rebuilt stone church from the end of the 12th century. Gothic architectural details and a baroque red marble altar.
Currently, Bovec is primarily an active tourism center and a base for trips to the Julian Alps. There are many guesthouses, hotels and restaurants, as well as facilities where you can rent sports equipment.
The vicinity of the Triglav National Park is conducive to hiking and climbing. From Bovec, easy routes lead through the Soczy Valley with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks, and more difficult to the area of the Kanin peak, where you have to face narrow traverses and precipitous slopes.
The town has a small sports airport that offers glider flights and is a base for paragliders. In turn, the Soczy River and its rapid, mountain tributaries are great places for mountain kayaking, rafting or other forms of rafting.
In summer, cycling routes are also popular, while in winter there is a large Kanin ski resort and a dense network of trails for cross-country skiing.
