Liptovský Hrádok Castle
Local name: Hrad Liptovský hrádok
The Hrádok Castle, together with the manor house next to it and the nearby rock, are the main attractions of the village of Liptovsky Hródek located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. The castle and the entire surrounding area are in private hands. It houses the exclusive GrandCastle Hotel, Magdalena Zai Restaurant and a wine bar. It is also worth climbing the rock, which offers a beautiful view of the castle and the Tatra Mountains.
The first mention of the castle, from which the city is named, dates back to 1341. The stronghold was probably built on the initiative of Donca County at the beginning of the 14th century. It was supposed to protect the trade route known as Via Magna.
Until the mid-15th century, the castle belonged to the royal estates. Later it changed owners frequently. Its development was most influenced by a woman - Magdalena Zayova, who at the beginning of the 17th century built a large Renaissance manor (castle) next to the castle and modernized the defensive walls.
