Marianska Góra (Mariánska hora) along with the Basilica of St. Mary in Levoča is one of the oldest and most important pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. The annual pilgrimage takes place on the first Sunday of July. Due to the large number of pilgrims who came here, a neo-Gothic church was built in 1984, raised to the rank of Minor Basilica. Inside there is a sculpture of the Merciful Virgin Mary.
The Franciscans who spread the chapel of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary spread the Marian cult here. Marianska Góra is visited almost every day. In addition to Holy Masses, there are many pilgrimages for young people, pensioners and many other groups. In 2005, Mariańska Góra was included in the group of world pilgrimage centers, such as Lourdes, Mariazell, Częstochowa and Fatima. In 1995, John Paul II celebrated a mass here for 650,000 faithful.
