The Slovak State Philharmonic was founded in 1968 as the second professional symphony orchestra in Slovakia. The first concert took place in April 1969. The philharmonic orchestra very quickly achieved successes on the concert stages of European countries, Asia and both Americas. Since 1991, the State Philharmonic in Košice has been one of the main organizers of the festival 'Košice Music Spring' and the International Organ Festival named after Ivan Sokol.
The Symphony Orchestra of the State Philharmonic in Košice is currently one of the best orchestras in Slovakia. It consists of nearly 90 professional musicians who perform over 60 concerts annually. They have numerous recordings for radio and television broadcasting, as well as for record companies (over 160 CDs), as well as performances with the world's best soloists.
