Saint Elisabeth Cathedral in Košice is the largest Catholic church in Slovakia. It is a late Gothic, five-nave basilica with a transept and a polygonal presbytery. Inside you can admire the Gothic triptych of Saint Elizabeth and the five-meter-tall figure of the Virgin Mary hung from the vault.
The cathedral in Košice was built for over 100 years. It is a soaring building with a polygonal tower at the west facade and a small metal turret above the intersection of the naves. The church was rebuilt several times, the largest of the renovations took place after the fire of the second half of the 18th century. At that time, the cathedral's tower received a decorated Rococo helmet.
The interior of the cathedral is very simple. In some places, the remains of frescoes have been preserved on the walls. Last Supper. The main altar is a triptych with 48 plaque paintings depicting the life of Saint Elizabeth. In the church decor you can also see handicrafts.
