Hričov Castle

Local name: Hričovský hrad

Hričov Castle is one of the smallest of its kind in Slovakia, it is also considered one of the oldest. The first written mention of him appeared as early as 1208. The picturesque ruins can be reached directly from the village of Hričovské Podhradie along the road marked as the red hiking trail. The route takes about 60 minutes.

The castle frequently changed owners and was rebuilt many times. Like most Slovak castles, it began to collapse in the 17th century. Today, however, the members of the Association of Friends of Hričov Castle became interested in the ruins. They are enthusiasts who try to restore the building's former splendor.

The ruins of the fortress are not the only local attraction. Just below the castle is a monk-like rock known as the Stone Monk. There are also three small caves near the building.
