Danubiana
Local name: Danubiana
The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum is located at the end of the Danube Peninsula, on the border of Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. Is one of the youngest museums of contemporary art in Europe. The modern building perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape houses a collection of Dutch, Slovak and European artists. Outside the museum there is a sculpture park, where you can see works by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Rudolf Uher and Hans van de Bovenkamp, among others.
The museum was opened in 2000. Established on the initiative of the Dutch art collector and patron Gerard Meulensteen from Eindhoven and the Slovak art dealer Vincent Polakovič. For this reason, most of the works presented here are works of Dutch and Slovak artists. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museum also presents temporary exhibitions of the greatest contemporary artists from the world.
In addition to the interesting collection, the museum's attraction is the building itself. Illuminated by natural light coming through the glazed windows open to the huge river. It is perfectly integrated into the landscape and does not interfere with the surrounding nature.
