Čabraď Castle
Local name: Hrad Čabraď
The ruins of Čabraď Castle are situated on a rocky cliff above the Slovak town of Čabradský Vrbovok. On three sides, access is blocked by one of the meanders of the Litava River, and the route passes through the Čabraď National Nature Reserve, where you can admire the lush nature and the largest number of naturally occurring reptile species in Slovakia. From the hill on which the castle is located, there is a beautiful view of the entire area.
The stronghold was built in the 13th century and had a protective function - it guarded an important trail that ran nearby. In the 16th century, it was rebuilt into a defensive fort against the Turkish invasions. After a fire at the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was abandoned and has been deteriorating since then. It can be reached on foot from the village of Čabradský Vrbovok. The route is not difficult, but it takes about an hour.
