Mining Museum
Local name: Banské múzeum v prírode
The Mining Open-Air Museum belonging to the Slovak Mining Museum is located in the Bartolomej and Ondrej tunnels on the outskirts of Banská Štiavnica. It is a place where you can see for yourself what the work of miners looked like over the centuries. Tourists visit adits in helmets under the guidance of a guide.
Banská Štiavnica was one of the main centers of gold and silver mining in Upper Hungary. Today, these traditions are reminded by the Slovak Mining Museum, which has seven branches throughout the city. Each of them deals with different aspects of the city's history and culture. A mining open-air museum was organized in the Ondrej and Bartolomej adits. Here you can see the machines and tools used by miners and go the route of the cableway used to extract the output. Outside there is an exhibition of fossils showing specimens excavated while drilling local adits.
