Rose Square
Local name: Piața Trandafirilor
The central city square was built in the 14th century. From the Middle Ages until the 1950s, it served as the main marketplace in the city. The largest fairs in the region were also held there. The square is 550 meters long. On the one hand, its width is 40 m, and then it expands to 80 m.
The center of the square is a picturesque promenade surrounded by trees. There are two monuments here - the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, commemorating Romanian soldiers who died in combat in World War II, and the equestrian statue of Avram Iancu. Every year, since the 1960s, you can also see a colorful Flower Clock.
The square is surrounded by numerous historical buildings, 25 of which are classified as monuments. There are, among others the Orthodox cathedral, the 16th-century Lábas-ház and the Toldalagi Palace, which houses the Ethnographic Museum.
