Maramureș Village Museum
Local name: Muzeul Satului Maramureșean
The open-air museum has 30 original farms representing historic rural buildings. Among them are both Romanian houses and houses belonging to ethnic minorities - Jewish, Ukrainian and Hungarian, which stand out from them. There is also a synagogue and a church standing in the center of the museum, at the intersection of all streets.
Most of the buildings come from the 16th-19th century, so they are the oldest preserved houses not only in Romania, but also in this part of Europe. The oldest buildings in the museum include: the Codrea house from 1596 moved from the village of Berbesti and the church from 1616. You can also see farm and utility buildings such as a mill, stables, barns, tool sheds and a small building of the village school.
The museum has original furnishings and a collection of traditional tools. You can also view a collection of archival photographs.
