The zoo is considered the most diverse in the country in terms of species bred in it. Over 4,200 animals live here, both native and exotic, some of them are endangered species. You can see bears, lions, jaguars and tigers, as well as camels, raccoons, mouflons and lemurs.
Many species of birds live in the zoo, including flamingos, parrots, black swans, peacocks and snow owls. It is worth visiting the terrarium where turtles, iguanas, lizards and snakes are bred, as well as aquariums with numerous exotic species of fish.
The first small zoos were established in Bucharest in the Carol, Cismigiu and Kisseleff parks as early as 1906. All were severely damaged in August 1944 during the struggle for the liberation of the city. A new zoo was built after the war in 1955, which was gradually transformed into a contemporary garden.
