Ceausescu House

Local name: Casa Ceausescu

The luxury villa was the private residence of Nicolae and Elena Ceusescu for nearly a quarter of a century. It was built in the 1960s and then expanded several times. Currently, it houses a museum, and the interior of the residence reflects the conditions in which Ceusescu lived at the height of power.

The interior of the villa was stung in a rather eclectic, antique style. Various types of wood, both native and exotic, were used for finishing and furniture, including oak, sycamore, cherry, walnut, mahogany and rosewood. Attention is drawn to the huge indoor swimming pool and private spa, all the more striking because at a time when most of the country was formed it was in poverty.

The residence also has a rich collection of paintings. There are works here, among others Octava Băncilă, Camil Ressu, Rudolf Cumpăn and George Baron Lowendal. You can also see a collection of handmade tapestries and colorful mosaics.
