House of the Free Press

Local name: Casa Presei Libere

The House of the Free Press was built in the 1950s according to the design of the architect Horia Maicu, referring to the appearance of the university in Moscow. Its architecture is a typical example of the Stalinist socialist style. From 1956 to 2007, it was the tallest building in Bucharest. Its height reaches 91.6 m, not counting the over 12-meter antenna.

The building was designed to accommodate all printing presses and editorial offices operating in Bucharest. It partially performs this function today - it is the seat of numerous contemporary Romanian newspapers and magazines.
