Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park
Local name: Parcul Național Domogled-Valea Cernei
The protected national park covers the valley area between the Cerna, Dodeanu, Vâlcan and Medinţi mountains. There are various elements of the mountainous landscape, such as rocky slopes, mountain meadows, sinkholes, caves and waterfalls. This ensures a variety of flora and fauna, including rare and endemic species.
There are over 1,100 plant species in the park, including the endemic ones: primula, gypsophila and golden flax. There are also many species of protected animals and those listed in the Red List of Threatened Species. They include brown bears, lynxes, several species of bats, alpine swifts, horned vipers and toads.
On the slopes of the valley there are unusual caves with a warm, sometimes even tropical climate. The temperature in some of them reaches 35-45 C.
