Alexandria is a small, quiet town and the center of the Teleorman region. There are several historic churches and a regional museum.
The city was founded in the 19th century on the basis of a former stop for merchants and a market settlement. It was primarily commercial and not too many representative buildings were built. Its most important buildings are the Cathedral of St. Alexander with nice mosaics decorating the facade and murals inside and the Church of St. Emperors Constantine and Helena .
In Alexandria, there is also the Teleorman Region Museum , which focuses primarily on the history of these areas in the context of the history of the entire Wallachia region. An important object of local history for the inhabitants is the Monument of the First World War .
