Pergola da Foz is a pergola with a cement balustrade, which is one of the most recognizable attractions of Porto. It is located on the Foz promenade and is a must-visit place for lovers. The long, wide, shaded walkway on the seafront is ideal not only for romantic walks and photos. Tourists and locals often go jogging and cycling.
Pergola is a building in the neoclassical style, painted in a pale gold color. It was built around 1930, and construction costs amounted to 53,000 escudos. The proximity of the sea significantly contributed to the partial destruction of the monument, which is why in 2008 the pergola was renovated.
Apparently, Pergola da Foz was built after the wife of the then mayor of Porto went to Nice in France and went to the "Promenade des Anglais". She liked the place so much that she asked her husband to build something similar in Porto.
