The National Press Museum in Porto aims to save Portugal's printing heritage. The collection includes still working manual printing machines, the operation of which can be tested by visitors. The exhibition is divided into three exhibition areas dedicated to pre-printing, proper printing and finishing. There is also the hall of Rodrigo Alvares - the first Portuguese printer who in 1497 printed the first two books in Porto.
The museum was opened in April 1997. In addition to the permanent exhibition, cyclical temporary exhibitions related to the press and graphics, as well as ... cartoons are organized here. Every year, the museum organizes the Porto Cartoon World Festival, which is an important event recognized by FECO - the Federation of Drawing Organizations - as one of the three largest cartoon festivals in the world.
