Praia Castelo do Queijo can be translated as "a beach with a cheese castle". This original name comes from the Castelo do Queijo fortress - a 16th-century castle in Porto, located right on the ocean. In Portugal, it is said that the fort was built on a rock resembling a huge piece of cheese.
The beach itself is a short stretch of sand and rocks that goes back to the promenade. This is not a particularly popular place for summer rest. Tourists come here to admire the castle, but only a few stay to sunbathe or swim. Photographers and locals appear here more often than visitors.
The beach is a bit "wild" - there is no extensive tourist infrastructure such as restaurants, bars or playgrounds. So it is an ideal place for everyone who wants to escape the crowds and crowds known from other beaches in the city.
