Praia do Carneiro is a beach in Porto located near the mouth of the Duero River to the ocean. At its southern end there are the old breakwater and the Felgueiras lighthouse. The impressive Fortaleza de São João da Foz is located not far behind the beach, a 16th-century fortress built to defend the Duero estuary.
The beach itself is unfortunately not very comfortable. The substrate consists of stones and coarse sand, the water quality in this place is also not perfect. However, Praia do Carneiro is a place that is worth visiting because of the interesting surroundings and nearby monuments. The park, restaurants and bars are also nearby.
Carneiro has the Blue Flag and the Golden Beach award. In the nineteenth century it was one of the most visited beaches in Porto. Its name comes from the time when shepherds settled near the coast and grazed their herds here.
