Beach Homem do Leme

Local name: Praia do Homem do Leme

Praia do Homem do Leme is one of the popular beaches located in Porto. It is sandy and rocky, about 374 meters long. This place is often chosen by families with children, mainly due to two playgrounds. It was the first beach in Porto that received the Blue Flag. She was also awarded the Golden Beach award. On hot summer days, you sometimes have to do a lot of gymnastics to find a free place here.

On the beach in the middle of Avenue Montevideo stands "Man of Leme", a bronze sculpture by Américo Gomes. The monument is a tribute to fishermen who are to be represented by a man holding the helm. The sculpture was created for the Portuguese colonial exhibition (1934). After its completion, due to the great success of this work, a commission was formed, which decided to set up a sculpture on the promenade. The statue was inaugurated on January 27, 1938.
